A lot of you will know that I spent the previous 12 years as an elected councillor, serving as a County Councillor, a District Councillor and a Councillor on the new Unitary Authority, Cornwall Council. This ended in May 2013. I enjoyed my time very much in this important role and would recommend the challenge and experience it brings to anybody. I also had the misfortune to serve for 4 years on the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority, what a performance that was. Jolly good job the government replaced these ineffective organisations with the new elected police commissioners. Judging by the response of top police officers to Tony Hogg, our local police commissioner he seems to be doing a good job at upsetting them bringing at last some much needed scrutiny and accountability to the service.
In those 12 years I certainly met some great people but unfortunately mixed in with it all I regret to say that I met some persistent old moaners, who in some cases, I am afraid had an axe to grind. In the end the moaners tend to get you down and I for one genuinely lost faith in the human race. When you get this attitude it’s time to let somebody else take up the challenge. That is precisely what influenced my decision not to go for re-election in 2013.
I am glad to say that now I am celebrating my first year in my new business adventure my faith in the human race has been very much restored. I have, over the last 12 months had the pleasure of meeting some of the nicest people I could have imagined to have met. They have been so kind to me, supplying endless cups of tea and coffee while I endeavor to clean their carpets and upholstery. I have really been taken back by their genuine kindness and gratitude.
It’s a great experience walking out of a customer’s property knowing that they are delighted with the service you have provided. I certainly know now that I made the right choice 12 months ago. I enjoy each new working day with the new experience it brings.
Thank you to all the people who have supported my business over the past 12 months. May I wish each and every one of you a very happy Christmas and prosperous 2014.
Kind regards
Graeme
